Cost breakdown

Air Canada: Starting at 70k points + $56-96 in tax/fees. Spend an extra 15k points to make the flight freely changeable/cancellable. Otherwise $75 CAD for changes and $150 CAD to cancel per ticket.
Transfer Partners: Amex, Bilt, Capital One, Chase
Tip: Air Canada Aeroplan has a great stopover program, where you can have a stopover before going to your next destination. It costs an extra 5k points per ticket to add a stopover.

ANA: Starting at 50k points + $243-282 in tax/fees. 3k miles to cancel your flight.
Transfer Partners: Amex
Note: Amex→ANA is never an instant transfer. Usually takes 72 hours.

Turkish: 65k points + $218-258 in tax/fees. $70 change/cancel fees
Transfer Partners: Bilt, Capital One, Citi

United: 80k points + $6-45 in tax/fees. Free changes/cancellations.
Transfer Partners: Bilt, Chase

You could potentially book with Avianca for 69k miles one way (mystery tax/fees, you’ll have to call). However, I was unable to get the awards to show up online. You may have to call. Amex has a 15% bonus to Avianca LifeMiles through 11/30/25. Transfer partners are Amex, Bilt, Citi, Capital One, and Wells Fargo. You can also buy Avianca LifeMiles for around ~1.22 cents per point right now. (One Mile at a Time). This ends 11/18/25.

How to search and book?

Use Avianca’s calendar search trick. Here is Avianca’s Lifemiles site to search for flights.

1) After logging in, search for one-way, choose business class, and put in destination details. Don’t choose a date yet.

2) After putting in destinations and choosing what type of cabin, then click on the “Dates” section. Find dates that are underlined in blue as these days should have saver award availability. Then book with your preferred program. Notably, even though they show up on Lifemiles, you probably won’t be able to see or book them on the site. (You could try calling, it should be ~69k Avianca points one-way in business). Quirks of Avianca!!

3) Found dates? Now search on your preferred program to confirm availability, then book!

Turkish Airlines business class. A mixed experience depending on the plane type.

Make sure to check what type of plane configuration you are booking. There is certainly a major difference where the 777-300ERs have a 2-3-2 arrangement in business class (lie-flat still) and the 787s or the A350s have a nice and modern 1-2-1 seating where everyone has direct aisle access. In-flight service on Turkish Airlines is top-notch with amazing food, friendly FAs, and attentive service.

Atlanta (ATL) is a mixed bag of 787s, A350s, and 777s; Boston (BOS) is a mix of A350s and sometimes the A330s which have a 2-2-2 seating; Detroit (DTW) is usually a 787; and Dallas (DFW) is mixed between 777s and 787s.

One issue is Turkish could always swap the plane from a nice one to a not-so-nice-one at the last minute due to operational needs.
