Is it pronounced "EEE-VEE-AYY” or “EEVUH”? Apparently, it’s “EEE-VEE-AYY” but I can’t reverse how I learned it as a child. Anyways, the new EVA Air route between IAD and TPE just got loaded. Many dates this summer have 1 business class saver award. There are also 2 economy seats on most days. Dates are going fast. Maybe use the flexible Aeroplan option to book if you need to think about it and figure out a return.
EVA’s new route is 4x weekly and starts on June 26 from IAD. The IAD-TPE flight leaves at 1:50am local time and lands at 5:45am local time to help with feeder traffic. The TPE-IAD flight leaves at 7:30pm and lands at 10:30pm local time.
These dates will go fast and availability is changing pretty quickly.

Cost breakdown
Currently, I only see these awards bookable on ANA and Air Canada or on EVA’s own program.
ANA: Starting at 65k points and $126 in tax/fees. Cancellable for 3,000 miles or ~$30. Free changes as long as same route.
Transfer Partners: Amex
Tip: Transfers are never instant. At a minimum usually takes 2 days.
Air Canada: Starting at 87.5k points and $83 in tax/fees. Spend an extra 16k points to make the flight freely changeable/cancellable. Otherwise $75 CAD for changes and $150 CAD to cancel per ticket.
Transfer Partners: Amex, Bilt, Capital One, Chase
Tip: Air Canada Aeroplan has a great stopover program, where you can have a stopover (in TPE in this instance) before going to your next destination. It costs 5k points per ticket to add a stopover.
EVA: Starting at 80k points and $30 in tax/fees.
Transfer Partners: Citi (1:1), Capital One (4:3)
Note: A bit confusing to book due to a website that is not very modern. Guide on Frequent Miler here.
How to search and book?
These flights are currently not showing up on United or Avianca. So no calendar search shortcuts. You can narrow it down by dates because EVA flies on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday from TPE-IAD and Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday from IAD-TPE.
Using a tool like Seats.Aero or Roame can help find dates as well.
Use EVA and Star Alliance network to fly beyond Taipei
Use the IAD-TPE flight to help you get to Asia, but you can connect through TPE to other Asian destinations on EVA or other Star Alliance airlines.
EVA business class
The IAD/TPE route is expected to be serviced by EVA’s 787-9 aircraft. These come with more modern business class seats in a 1-2-1 layout vs. the older 777-300s with a 1-2-1 reverse herringbone layout.
